This is a song about a dancer who used to work in the theatre where I (Nansy) also worked. He was tall and strong but on the last night of the show, his boyfriend announced that he was leaving to dance in Paris and our dancer remained, alone and broken hearted. he had a very blurred tattoo of a butterfly on his chest which was at eye level when I danced with him!

Beneath this blurred old butterfly, a battered old heart breaks,
He could sweep you off your feet, but that's not what it takes.
He could be the minotaur, holding up the gate,
But when the portcullis comes crashing down, he's crushed beneath its weight.

The final curtain has come down, like a thief has taken the rhythm from his wings.
He still plays the part, but he's dancing in the dark to the song the fat lady sings.

Some hundred miles and an ocean greet his waking mind,
Every inch of that land crushes him, each surge leaves him behind,
He believed they could be filmstars, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire.
But now that dream is crumbling and he's tumbling down the spiral stairs.
